Morning Glow Tonic

#1

Add a spring to your step every morning with this spicy, zingy, invigorating tonic that not only wakes up your tastebuds but is a cleansing detox for your whole body too. This cheery blend works all year round but is even better for fighting off the sniffles in-between seasons as the temperaturSe changes.

Packed full of goodness, this sunshine-hued drink will cheer you up just looking at it which is just what we need in the morning, especially when we’re feeling a little groggy.

Let’s start with turmeric – basically gold dust for the body! Used for centuries for its potent healing powers in Ayurveda, turmeric has powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant-rich properties that support a healthy body and brain. The problem with inflammation in the body is that it’s linked to lots of chronic diseases including depression, arthritis, heart disease, cancer, and degenerative brain disorders. As an anti-inflammatory, turmeric helps to protect against these, in turn, extending your healthy lifespan.

Not only that, but its antioxidant properties mean that it fights free radicals that can cause oxidative stress on your body. Oxidative stress is thought to be what’s behind aging and age-related chronic diseases. Turmeric acts as your bodyguard to protect and shield against any age-related damage. Turmeric isn’t easily absorbed by the body as it’s not soluble in water. Pairing it with black pepper helps the body to absorb its vital nutrients by 2000%!

Now, for the spice: ginger. When we sleep, our digestive system gets to work to help our body to repair for another busy day. Since 90% of our immune system resides in our gut, it’s important we keep it happy, and ginger works to do just that. If we’re feeling nauseous, ginger can help to calm and alleviate digestive issues like morning sickness or motion sickness. On top of that, it can support heart health, blood sugar levels and also fight inflammation. As a diaphoretic, it encourages perspiration so is a good remedy for treating cold or flu, hence why it’s perfect for those transitional periods when the weather can’t make its mind up.

And now for the zest! Not only is lemon vibrant and refreshing, but it’s a perfect detoxing agent. The citric acid in lemons helps to purify the liver to rid the body of any toxins or waste that has built up. It also supports a healthy gut and regulates metabolism. Antioxidants, one being vitamin C, can relieve the symptoms of congestion too to aid in a speedy recovery! Flavonoids, tannins, copper, and potassium in lemons are all remarkable components for improving brain health.

The invigorating aroma, along with the plethora of nutrients promotes the transmission of nerve impulses to elevate mood and memory, in turn alleviating anxiety and depression. Lemon tea is often recommended as a natural remedy for those with persistent migraines – the rejuvenating, tangy aroma and antioxidants can lower inflammation providing instant relief.

It’s not just your body that will benefit from this super tonic either; your skin will see a glow up too! Brimming with astringent and anti-inflammatory properties, lemon can reduce dead skin cells and calm skin concerns like acne, pimples, and eczema. Plus, vitamin C plays a vital role in the formation of collagen. This collagen boost can help to reduce the physical signs of aging like fine lines and wrinkles to make way for a healthy, clear, dewy complexion.

And for the hydration? Coconut water is not only super hydrating, but also contains a plethora of vitamins (including B6 and B12), plus amino acids, enzymes, and phytonutrients.

Altogether, the high level of anti-inflammatory and antioxidants in this tangy drink boosts your immunity and livens up your digestive system – a healthy way to rid your body of any toxins first thing so you can feel your best self all day.

Thought it wasn't possible for something to be so nutritious and taste good? Think again! The bright, cheery mixture is tangy, fresh, zesty, and tart, but if you have a sweet tooth, you can stir in some honey or cinnamon too. The addition of cinnamon warms it up to soothe on a cold day. In this golden mixture of juicy hydration, reap the benefits in mind, body, and spirit with the ultimate feel-good, wake-up, glow-up tonic.
